About the Author
JIM VALENTINE
Jim Valentine was born in Chicago in 1938 and graduated from Knox College in 1961 before serving in the United States Army. His early adulthood was shaped by military life, global travel, and rapid responsibility, all experiences that would later inspire his deeply human approach to storytelling.
Following his service, Jim built a distinguished career with Union Special Machine Company, where he held senior management roles across the United States, Canada, and Latin America. His work required frequent relocation, and over the years, he and his family lived in Germany, Boston, Worth, New York, and Chicago. These moves exposed him to diverse cultures, communities, and perspectives, all of which influence the emotional realism and grounded detail in his writing.
In 1993, Jim retired from corporate leadership and founded Valentine Enterprises. He led the company successfully for 31 years before selling it in 2024. Beyond business, Jim has been a committed community leader, serving as president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Chicago Knox College Club, and the Knox College Alumni Association, and as founder of the Siwash Athletic Club. He was also honored with the Knox College Service Award for exemplary service.
Now based in Fort Lauderdale, Jim Valentine enjoys golf, classic cars, and writing stories that explore family bonds, loss, and the quiet strength found in ordinary lives. His work reflects a lifetime shaped by responsibility, determination, and lasting love.
